We’ve been given these shapes—these curves, these angles, these raw, real forms—to hold our hearts. We should honour our bodies.
I acknowledge that it can be difficult to believe in our own beauty. Like many other women, I have struggled with distorted body image. But, I say, it’s time we reclaim our forms from those untrue thoughts. It’s time we pull ourselves away from what may be holding us back and stop to capture ourselves as we are. Let’s allow ourselves to feel beautiful while doing so.
We only get this one life to live—so, fuck it! Let’s capture ourselves now, as we are, and let’s look at ourselves and think: wow, I am beautiful. These images are beautiful--they have captured me.
While I am primarily a wedding photography, I’ve felt deep down, as a woman, that something was missing. A wedding day is fast: I am on high alert, I am tense, I am keeping it together. I am full-on and non-stop. I am chasing light. I am making split-second decisions. I am on my toes for 12 hours straight. What I was missing was stillness.
These intimate sessions will reflect that stillness that I aim to pull into my life and allow to expand into this work. This stillness will allow the intimacy of beauty—the bending, stretching, the movement of form—to be fully realized. This beauty will not only emerge through photography, but in the space where we work together to create this kind of important art. You might feel nervous at first but you will feel beautiful.
The process starts with your first message to me.
I want to hear all about you and where you're at. I want to learn about you and what makes you feel sexy. I want to know the music you love and what makes you want to move, to dance. I want to hear what makes you feel most sexy when you wear it: this shouldn't be a matching pink bra and panty set if that's not you. This is about you. It should be a slouchy grey sweater and socks or a flannel plaid shirt with full-bodied panties if that's your thing. Maybe it’s an old t-shirt and nothing on the bottom. It is what ever makes you feel your sexiest—especially if it's outside the box. I want to know what part of your body is your favourite, his favourite, her favourite… Let’s talk about this—let’s create something beautiful from something beautiful.
